Play 2048 online with the complete 4×4 number board

2048 is a sliding number puzzle: move every tile in one direction and combine equal values. The board starts with two tiles, and every successful move creates one new tile. You can play in your browser without downloading a separate app.

This edition keeps the existing FoolFish 2048 controls, animated tiles, scoring and single-step Undo. There is no timer or online opponent. The challenge is making space for larger numbers while keeping the board movable.

How equal tiles merge and add to your score

Two 2 tiles become a 4, two 4 tiles become an 8, and the pattern continues toward 2048. A tile can merge only once in a move: four 2 tiles pushed together become two 4 tiles rather than one 8. The merged value is added to the score.

New tiles are either 2 or 4. They appear only after a move changes the board, so pushing against a fully packed edge without any merge does not create another tile. The four directions use the same rules.

Arrow keys, touch swipes and one-step Undo

Use arrow keys or WASD on a keyboard. On a phone or tablet, swipe across the board; the direction buttons are another way to move. The board animates a move before accepting the next input, and short taps do not count as swipes.

Undo, or the Z key, restores the immediately previous board, score, move count and random state, including the tile created by that move. It is one step rather than unlimited history. Your personal best remains recorded when you undo.

Reach 2048, keep going and recognize a blocked board

Making a 2048 tile brings up the win panel. Choose Keep going to continue the same board toward larger values. This continues your score and board instead of beginning a second game.

A round ends when all 16 squares are occupied and no neighboring equal pair can merge. The result panel offers Undo if a previous move is available, or a confirmed New game. A new round keeps your personal best but replaces the current board.

2048 strategy: protect space and build a corner

Try keeping your largest tile near a corner and building smaller values toward it. Avoid shifting that tile away without a reason, and watch whether your next move leaves a useful empty square. This is a practical habit, not a guaranteed solution.

Browser progress, account saves and device choices

Moves are stored in this browser immediately, including the one-step Undo state. Sign in on the main FoolFish site before opening a game to use that account’s cloud checkpoint. Guest and account progress are kept in separate saves.

If two devices have different boards, choose the one you want to continue in Save options. Keep a copy of progress you care about before replacing it. A saved board and your personal best are different records.
